Why SUMMER Is Important For FATHERS Without CUSTODY

Fathers who don’t have custody of their children - either because of a divorce or a breakup with the mother - have a difficult time of it during the school year. Seeing your kids every other weekend is artificial. It doesn’t allow enough time to really get to know each other, and there’s too much time in between to develop any kind of continuity. There’s almost always problems with homework - either it isn’t given, or it’s dumped on dad, who has to spend all weekend working on it, instead of his relationships with his children.

Backpacks and Posture Problems - As the Twig is Bent So Grows the Tree

As we approach the coming school year, we head off to the stores and malls to buy school supplies. Of course, most kids have outgrown most of the clothes they finished the last school year in just a couple of months ago. And then, there s the usual array of binders, pencils, paper and of course the trusty backpack.


If your kids are anything like mine, it almost seems like they need a pack mule to carry all their new supplies to school. And, it seems like the book bags and backpacks get bigger every year. At the same time we ve tried to get a backpack that s big enough to carry everything, we

Is She Bipolar?

QUESTION:


My daughter has been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) and potentially Bipolar Disorder, but that last diagnosis is not confirmed yet …right now she is unable to go to school - anxiety and panic attack when the morning comes. We are extremely hesitant to go the home-school route, because of the probability of the anxiety transferring to another area –especially if she has not developed the skills to tackle it when she experiences the anxiety/panic.

Speech and Language Therapy for Children With Autism

What is it?
The goal of speech therapy is to improve all aspects of communication. This includes: comprehension, expression, sound production, and social use of language (1). Speech therapy may include sign language and the use of picture symbols (2). At its best, a specific speech therapy program is tailored to the specific weaknesses of the individual child (1). Unfortunately, it can be difficult to create a child-specific, evolving, long-term speech therapy plan (1, 3).
